LIGHTWEIGHT SPORTING RIFLE
Lightweight Sporting rifle was introduced as a replacement for target handgun shooting, when handguns were banned in the UK.
At Tubslake we shoot at 20 Yards, for both timed and untimed events and for "iron sights" as well as optics. Target cards comprise a single Bull and 10 shots are fired at the target and are scored out of a possible 100 points.
The discipline is challenging because the rifle is shot unsupported, without specialist shooting jackets, standing and the target is not large.
By far the most popular rifle used in this class is the Ruger 10/22 semi automatic. In addition to the various standard factory versions, a huge aftermarket tuning industry exists, to help you to build the perfect gun that helps you towards that elusive "100"!
Unsurprisingly, this all comes at a price, and it would probably be fair to say that for most shooters, consistent practice with a standard rifle will yield rewarding results over time.
